Introspection Strikes Marius

A cold rainy day, the first in a long while, I am in my studio, and was about to play around with my brand new recording studio, (samplitude 2013), when, CARAMBA!! SAPRISTI JIM!!, I was struck by the two hands of nostalgia and introspection.
Hence the two posts just posterated.

I looked back on the Gemini in me. My image of him was that of a young man getting ahead in the world, you know, work hard, play harder!!

The reality was partly true, however, his footsteps were dogged by this creative, self indulgent, maniac who spent a great deal of his time, finding new ways, with the encouragemnt of the eeejits club, of being funny/boorish/scintillating,a bloody nuisance/loud/sincere I really mean that/ and ten kinds of idiot.
Mrs Marius and I come up 50 years married this year. I takes me hat off to her,
she's a miracle.

We are the best of friends and still after these years have lots of conversation, although, we have both heard some of our better stories a few times now.

Survivor

Once I was this person, and ten different kinds of fool at the same time. In later years I came out of the coma and became a sweety, er, almost!

So you think you had it rough
To survive you had to be tough
But surviving just wasn't enough
You had to prove what you were
By being savage cynical so sure

Everything was hard you say
No time for no other way
Hard knocks got in your way
Hard rocks forced you to be
Something you never should be
Cold and strong unable to see
Any
Way
But your own

You cried
Then Lied
And Died
INSIDE

Is It easy to be so alone
Though your always on the phone
Fighting so hard to stay ahead
When inside
You're
Quite
DEAD

Everybody Wants A Piece

Everybody Wants a Piece

One girl wants my body
Another wants my mind
This one only wants to talk
Because she thinks I’m Kind

This man wants my money
That one wants a friend
Everybody wants a piece
Will it never end

Let go of me my brother
Don’t hang on me my mother
I do not need  another
I do not need a  lover

The boss wants all my time
The dentist wants my teeth
Give my eyes to charity
It’s all beyond belief

I’ll play you some cool guitar
I’ll sing you rock and roll,
I’ll give you all while you give nothing
Just leave me with my soul

Let
me
go
My
Own
Way

Painkillers are addictive: Panadeine Forte

A few posts ago I bragged about ditching the above painkiller after years of maximum usage. After three days I felt like someone had dropped a planet on me, blurred vision, nausea, lack of desire to breath, etcetcetc. It seems that the "eine" in the name refers to codeine which does not want to let you go without a fight. The more I do the stuff I like to do, the more the pain rides up on its big black horse and smacks me around. I have started using the pills again, but in ones instead of twos. I don't know who said Never give up, (possibly it was me). Its a hard road.
When life is hard "SUCK IT UP"
I'm off for a power nap now! hahahahaha!

Depression: But Wait There's More

Further to my previous post on ths subject, here is a song called The Running Man. It has images of a man who has lost the plot and decided to run away from his life. In amongst the images are a number of cool text messages which might just help.
If that fails send me $2000 in cash immediately and at least one of us will not be depressed

Depression

I am hearing more and more about this subject, and having, most of my life a personality bordering on manic depressive I know the horrors, of the "Black Dogs"
Some things I have learned to keep them at bay!
1 Get out of the house and in to the open air, it always lightens the cloud, especially on a sunny day.

2 Sing in the shower, everyone else in the house will get depressed, you however, will be fine! Honest.

3 Remember, the past is the dead past, it is gone, you can't get it back, neither can it harm you, where the mind leads the body follows, if you will keep telling yourself. only good days from now on, your subconscious brain will fill the order.

Find an interest, prefereably one where you are invloved with other people, mine is music, without this outlet, I would be in the funny farm, in a padded room, taking meals through a straw.

If you can't think of an interest, check out the net for hobbies, pastimes, social groups, etc. It takes less effort than you think to head back into the light.
Cheers

Marius The Dark Side: Necromancer

Over my whole life I have suffered nightmares and I'm told sleepwalking, some of the dreams had me waking up shouting something severe.
I wrote this song "Necromancer" fancying myself as the new guru of Gothic Rock. The keyboard was a funny little Yamaha PSS 680. It was then and is new  a draft, awaiting me getting serious and back into my studio proper like!
All the pics I found on the net, are only a microscopic precentage of whats out there.
I might add, this is just a song, I'm not really into this stuff, er that much, honest!
here's the clip

Its A Tough Life for Street Kids

A long time ago I wrote some songs as part of an urban song cycle, this one being about the absolutely awful situation of kids, orphaned, abandoned, run away living on the streets of our cities globally. I found a heap of pics on google, they kill me. I'm not hearing one thing from our politicians as to helping them. I guess they don't get votes that way, after all the poor kids aren't voters eh!!
Have a look:-

Pretty disturbing eh!
If you have any spare coin, find a charity like UNICEF and give 'em a donation.

My Car

I was looking for some pics, to make into a film clip of a song I wrote, called "My Car",
I was having a retro music attack and decided to construct a song on which I play all the instruments and do all the vocals. It took me forever. One day soon, I will re record it proper like !
However the clip features some weird and wonderful cars, cool cars, muscle cars, and a GTHO phase 4 Falcon, cool as , here's the clip

Hope you like it, if I keep this up we'll have a very weird album, in the not too distant future.

I have been engaged in uploading more of my own music and films to my you tube channel.
The latest posts feature, loneliness, street kids, cars and something dark called "Necromancer" (Amazing what gets written when drinking, drinking etcetc.
Here is the first link:-
"Nights End", it is late night in a big city bar, a woman sits alone and wistful, she does not want to go home alone. This songs features a terrific vocal performance by my friend Cindy Berman. I of course wrote the song, and I modestly think it is a heartbreaker!

Guitar Gallery

As a younger rock god with many aliases, playing in many bands, I bought and played some great guitars.
Whenever I got tired of playing or was broke, or was tired and broke, I sold my instruments. Big regret of my life, it seems now that I was selling future memories.
I've had a lifelong love affair with Gretsches, then Fenders, but I never owned an original Gibson. When I got the chance to buy a Gibson Blueshawk I jumped at it.
Later in my life when I was in a position to, I started to rebuild a collection of instruments such as I had then, plus some that took my fancy. Mrs Marius encouraged my madness (gotta love that woman).
Then when the room in the house was chocka block she suggested I build an external studio (Exernal, get it, from time to time I still play at concert volume!! ooops!)
So now here I am today posting this blog from my studio as I like to call it, I have numerous effects modules, one smallish peavey amp, some mics, a virtual multi track digital studio. I have discovered the fun of recording to disc and video and the great fun of uploading to you tube. I haven't gone viral yet, or is that feral, hahahahahaha!!

However it can only be a matter of time

Stay tuned

by the way, my you tube channel link:-

Go on have a look.

By the way, did I tell you, I am a  hot shot  guitar player, composer, somgwriter, singer only controlled my my extreme modesty.

I also play keyboards, badly!!

I am a geat bass player!

Laugh a lot, live the life

Gretsch 1967 Viking, more gold plate than Fort Knox superb player

Maccaferri G30 and G40 1955 brilliant Jazz Guitars, Check them out on the net for the big surprise

Peavey T60 with a Roland TK2 pickup huge value for money

1995 Ovation Collectors Series magic guitar with piezo pick up and on board grahic equaliser

Only one in the world competely hand crafted Gourd Guitar by Tony Davis, it will never leave the collection

Side view of above

Seriously excellent 80's synth guitar Roland 707, comes with the biggest floor mounted controller you have ever seen, flawless player, I'm nuts about this guitar, massively expensive when new, now can be picked up cheap as, what a shame

Yamaha AEX 1500, The Martin Taylor designed Jazz Box, impossible bang for the buck, I don't think these are being made today, other than cheap copies

Note the little Hofner Beatle bass 2nd from the right, as cool as,

my studio, or part thereof

My absolute favourite an original '63 Fender Jaguar, Magic, Magic,Magic

More pics of guitars above

One of the best Synth guitars for the money ever made the Casio MG510, built like a superstrat with unlimited midi capabilities

Another gold plated favourite the Gibson "Blueshawk", this one with the bigsby designed Maestro Tremolo. Again more gold plate than you can poke a stick at. Very lightweight, unreal player

With all these guitars look 'em up on the net for all the features they carry.

Retro Rockers Rock On

Fun and laughter extends our life, this has been comprehesivley proven by university controlled experiments on a man who stumled into a laboratory, mistakenly believing he'd got a grant.

Adopting this principle, the Dirt Poor Band got together a few days ago and played some guitar boogie and wrote untold versions of Happy Birthday to a friend in Houston Texas.

Blondes, Blondes, Blondes

Having acquired a very cool Yamaha AEX 1500,  yet another guitar in the Marius/Cyrus K Hammerblow collection A tune came to me. It said "Hey Marius, wanna play a bit of Jazz"
"Moi" sez I, I'm a rock god, I don't do Jazz, However the tune said, "I bring lots of  Blondes", "Say no more" sez Marius, "I'm in.
The tune is called "The LA Blonde", heaps of pics of some very lovely ladies!

Saving Whales

Saving Whales

I don't know why it is that certain cultures think it is cool to kiil the increasingly scarce wild animals of our planet. In particular the whale.

Some years ago I wrote a piece of music "Winterheart" It is dedicated to a mythical whale of that name who survives beyond age and ages. His purpose is to defend his species.

Finally since I worked out how to work U tube (TV became available to the masses in my lifetime) I have uploaded an exceprt from the piece.

Apache

Since I became Marius The Movie Mogul I am unable to stop making these simple, naive little clips, featuring my shit hot guitar work, whether I be Marius, or Cyrus K or "The Animal Is Alive".

Here is a peice which I recorded direct to tape a few years back. It is a favourite. The clips all taken from Google images indicate my huge respect for the Apache nation. Here's the link

A Dream of Paris

Last night a dream again
A long walk to Paris
From deep in the country
It rains
A stolen bicycle and a broken drink
Long Legs in a Gym Slip
Come to get me in this long limosine
Django plays a tango
All down Montmatre he stumbles
Looking for a phantom
A snatch of accordion music
In the night
Catches the last Train into
Gare Du Nord
Place De L'opera is singing again
In Boulevard Housemann
Searching for the street, the house, the room
The Dream Survives

Under The Phases Of The Moon

A Poem:

Under the Phases Of The Moon
A not so clear night
Thunderheads, a star now and then
A skyline, ridge, ocean
The moon
In Nomine Sinestre,
A pale gaze from clear eyes,
Look deep, what do you see
A dark reality
A dream missed
Under the phases of the moon
Stay a while, a fleeting while
A haunted smile under dark circled eyes
And years go by, never cry
Under the phases of the moon
Off in the distance
a saxaphone
in a blue mood
A jolt of fear, always near
Fragments of a life, pieces of the dream
survive
Under the phases of the moon
A drifting mist of thought
Caught unawares
In a slow waking dawn
Look deep, who do you see
Under the phases
of
the
moon.
